KCET.org Bolsters Ballot Brief Content for Los Angeles Elections on March 5 and May

The Online Voting Resource Provides Helpful Electoral News and Campaign Spending Databases for Los Angeles Primary Election Tomorrow

Burbank, CA - March 4, 2013 - KCETLink, the new national independent public media organization created by KCETs recent merger with the Bay Area-based independent media company, Link Media, announced that its online electoral guide, Ballot Brief, has bolstered its content to include helpful information and news about Los Angeles elections on March 5 and May 21.

Ballot Brief features comprehensive funding databases for all of the races detailing campaign contributions and expenditures for each candidate running for city office. Since most all contributions to a political candidate or ballot initiative in California are supposed to be made public, it doesnt mean a citizen can easily access or understand such public documents. These databases demystify campaign finance and help citizens easily track candidates money.

With the 2013 Los Angeles elections, we wanted to expand upon the toolset we could bring to the public, said Zach Behrens, editor-in-chief of KCET Blogs. Today, we present the first iteration of funding for candidates in the races that make up the March 5 and May 21 ballots.

Tonight, Ballot Brief editors Zach Behrens and Brian Frank, will be guests on KCETs award-winning nightly news program SoCal Connected at 5:30 and 10 p.m., to discuss the sites interactive campaign finance database and candidate spending this election cycle.

In November, Ballot Brief followed the presidential election polls in real-time and gave voters critical information about the complex propositions on the ballot.
