Creamsource Introduces Vortex2 and Vortex2 Soft

Creamsource, known for its tried-and-true Vortex Series of cinematic lighting, has announced the Vortex2 (V2) and Vortex2 Soft (V2S), two compact additions to the Vortex family that carry over the same CreamOS workflow, colour science, rugged build quality, and IP65 weather resistance crews have come to expect from the range now in a smaller 160W form factor.

Vortex2 is the more directional fixture of the pair with a tighter 20 beam angle, while the Vortex2 Soft has a native 110 spread for broader, softer coverage.

Fixtures this size tend to move around more once they arrive on set. They end up rigged into tighter spaces, packed densely onto carts, and regularly pulled into jobs they weren't originally brought in for. Over time, they become so essential that crews start wondering what life on set was like before them.

Compact Form Factor

At 6 kg without the yoke, the V2 Series is compact enough to move easily between truck packages, small studio environments, and fast-moving setups.

Built-in LumenRadio, etherCON, pass-through DMX, and pass-through power were designed for efficient daisy-chaining and more practical multi-unit configurations, particularly longer linear arrays.

Several new rigging features were also developed specifically for the V2 Series, including a centre mount gooseneck. The front-load accessory mounting system, first introduced with the Vortex Soft Series, also carries over to both V2 fixtures, alongside multiple LNX and 3/8 rigging points, plus a new 3-pin XLR DC input designed for portable battery operation using existing battery systems.

The V2 Series also supports a growing ecosystem of lenses, modifiers, and rigging accessories.

The Vortex Ecosystem

The V2 Series was designed as part of the broader Vortex ecosystem rather than as a standalone fixture. Existing Vortex users will find the same operating environment across CreamOS, networking, colour management, and control workflows, including the Slyyd app and Creamsource Webserver.

At the core of the system is CCMS (Creamsource Colour Management System), which uses the RRGBBW LED mix to maintain colour accuracy and consistency across the Vortex lineup. Operating natively in CIE xy colour space, CCMS allows the V2 Series to integrate naturally alongside other fixtures in the Vortex range without introducing noticeable differences in colour response or behaviour on set.

We weren't trying to make a smaller version of something simply to fill a gap in the lineup, said Tama Berkeljon, CEO of Creamsource. It became more about building a fixture people would want nearby all the time. Something compact enough to move around easily, but still very much part of the Vortex family in the way it behaves on set.
