Fire and Ice are a team of eight UK-based creative wedding photographers and videographers who specialise in capturing their clients' special days across the globe, from Europe to the United States.
Owned by Christian and Yaky, a husband and wife duo who originally met though a photographic group on Facebook, the Fire and Ice team's style is highly cinematic, capturing impactful videos and stills of engagements to first dances.
Now tasked with capturing over 80 weddings each year, Fire and Ice were on the hunt for continuous LEDs that were compact, yet powerful. The team needed a lighting solution that would perform for both high quality video and photography, so a traditional flashgun or strobe just wouldn't cut it. This led them to trying out a three-light kit of on-camera NEO 2s. Offering both a flicker-free continuous output and High Speed sync flash all-in-one, Rotolight's award-winning LEDs are the perfect tool for hybrid shooters.

One of Christian and Yaky's notable shoots is the mesmerising dance of newlywed couple, Stacy and Rob who tied the knot in Warwickshire, England, last year.
Rob was Stacy's dance teacher and they fell in love, says Christian. They choreographed their first dance, which we didn't know until the day of the wedding. We asked if they could do a rehearsal for us to film, and they kindly agreed, and this beautiful dance took place.
The Fire and Ice crew then found the biggest and darkest room in the venue and blocked out all of the natural light. The NEO 2 three-light kit was able to provide a compact, reliable and flicker-free continuous lighting setup that could be positioned in moments. The three NEO 2s were used to backlight the couple as they danced and when combined with a subtle stream of smoke; the moment culminated into a dramatic scene that matched the emotion of the music perfectly.
With fully adjustable brightness and colour temperature from 3150-6300K and an easy to read display, the team were able to tune the output to their needs and ensure the light was consistent across the three units to achieve the desired look.
We only had one take to shoot the whole thing because the actual first dance was just 15 minutes away, Remembers Christian. The smoke you see in the film? That's from one of the crew vaping!
Even filmed in just one take, the result was a romantic tear-jerker that beautifully portrays Rob and Stacy's love by capturing what brought them together: dancing. It was a no brainer to tie this dance to the moment Rob first saw Stacy, Christian continues. Our whole team was stunned, and we knew we had something special.
The footage from Rob and Stacy's wedding was edited within 24 hours out of the crew's pure excitement and the final results ended up getting a huge amount of notice online.
Fire and Ice have since invested in an Anova PRO 2; taking their Rotolight gear to every wedding they shoot using the significant power output to capture larger groups and when combined with natural light, Fire and Ice captured this perfect high contrast shot.

Many wedding photographers and videographers complain that the industry is dying, too saturated or couples' budgets are too tight that you can't create great content anymore, Christian concludes. But this is nonsense. Work hard to set yourself apart from the rest and there's plenty of room to succeed and beyond.
