AR, VR and on-board cameras to capture Extreme E races

New off-road racing series Extreme E will use track, on-board and live drone cameras and data-driven AR and VR graphics as part of its broadcast plans.

The Extreme E series is due to launch in early 2021, and has brought Aurora and North One on board as host broadcasters in a multi-season deal.

The production will also use remote technology, minimising on site footprint with all shows, mastered in London, in real time, direct from all of the championship's global locations.

Output for the sport's debut season will include over 30 hours of live race coverage plus highlights, and a 20-part supporting TV series, as well as the production of 300 short films for digital and social platforms.

Former HMS St Helena will be used to ship all the championship's cargo around the world, will also be home to a science laboratory to conduct research. A dedicated filmmaker will be embedded on-board to bring the scientific and environmental stories between races to life.
