PSL: Results and latest log standings on 9 January 2019

Kaizer Chiefs produced an impressive second-half display, scoring twice to hand log-deader Bidvest Wits a 2-0 defeat at Bidvest Stadium.

Both sides shut up shop at the back early on, and what ever chance that came by was spurned, as they went into the break without a change to the scoreboard.

The breakthrough would eventually come in the second half, as Leonardo Castro finding the net in the 57th minute, his sixth goal in all competitions this season.

The hosts' search for the equaliser proved in vain, with the next goal coming from the other end as Castro and Lebogang Manyama combined to set Henrik Ekstein up for an easy tap-in to make it 2-0 just 14 minutes later.

The match ended in unsavoury scenes as, after earning himself a yellow card by hacking down Bernard Parker, Robyn Johannes upgraded it to a red by backchatting referee, Victor Gomes, who was swamped by several protesting white shirts, even after the final whistle.

The result sees Amakhosi pick up a vital three points, while also helping along rivals, Orlando Pirates, who remain two points behind Wits.

Delon Mekoa opened the scoring well into the referee's optional time in the first half, and the Team of Choice looked to be on the way to only their second win of the season.

That was not to be as, with just 15 minutes remaining on the clock, Relebogile Mokhouane produced a cheeky back heel to draw Ea Lla Koto level.

It went from bad to worse for the hosts, as Sinethemba Jantjie fired in from the edge of the box to ensure the three points heaads to Bethlehem.

Orlando Pirates 4-2 Chippa UnitedThe week's PSL fixtures kicked off on Tuesday night with a six-goal thriller between Orlando Pirates and Chippa United at a wet Orlando Stadium.

The hosts werein the scoresheet as early as the third minute, when former Pirates defender Phetso Maphanga brought Thembinkosi Lorch well outside the 18-yard area.

It was from the resultant free kick that Lorch found an unmarked Happy Jele, and the skipper headed into the net leaving Chippa keeper, Daniel Akpeyi rooted to the spot.

The visitors drew level trough a defensive lapse by Jele, who allowed Tebogo Tlolane in for the equaliser, but the lead was soon restore five minutes later, when Maphanga's nightmarish outing continued as he nodded into his own net.

Pirates were the next to score, as Vincent Pule was brought down in the box, the converted the penalty kick to make it 3-1, before Chippa sparked a nervrvous period by pulling one back through the second own goal of the match Innocent Maela the culprit this time.

Those nerves were put to be with just six minutes remaining as, for the second time in as many matches, Kudakwashe Mahachi scored with his first touch of the match to secure a vital three points for Pirates.
