Newsletter June 2018

It continues to be a very busy time for Imagineer and now we are working in Coventry as City of Culture 2021.

We continue to focus on the capital redevelopment of Daimler and are working closely with architects Nicol Thomas, The City of Culture Trust and the City Council to ensure that we have the final designs, costings, economic impact study, feasibility study in readiness for submissions of applications to funders. There is an imperative to move the project forward to be ready for the delivery of major projects for 2021.

R&D work has begun on our Ambition for Excellence award winning project Bridge with the formation of the creative team, Orit Azaz, Director; Dan Potra, Designer; Corey Baker, Chorographer; Claire Maddocks, Producer and Lou Lomas Assistant Creative Producer. The team are working in collaboration with Arup and partners in Coventry and Grantham to create the idea for the performance structure, create performance narrative inspired by local story collection on the theme of bridge building divides and reconciliation. Bridge development will be showcased during The Festival of Imagineers 2018 in Coventry Cathedral and performed in Coventry and Grantham in 2019 and Worcester in 2020. We have been developing The Festival of Imagineers programme 17th-22nd September and will be announcing the headline events in the middle of June. We have formed an exciting new partnership with Coventry University and the festival is part of their 175th anniversary of teaching in the City celebrations. The programme has a strong local, national and international programme. We have also recently begun our collaboration with Artichoke on the development of the festival for 2021 and City of Culture.

The IMAGINEERIUM INITIATIVE Marvellous Mechanical Machines Project has engaged a further 5 Coventry Primary Schools this year working with artists and engineers. Designs and prototypes and performances are being prepared for The Pitch which is taking place on June 21st at The University of Warwick. This is where projects will be selected to be developed as art works for the new cycle trail in The Charterhouse Heritage site as a 2021 legacy.

Transformations have created the design and concept for a new outdoor performance called Venture which is a carousel powered by bicycles which will be built for festivals and events and will enable the young people who created it the opportunity to gain work from touring. This is a new initiative where the work is focussed more on vocational activity than simply young people getting any job following the experience. The collaboration with Media Mania has enabled us to introduce more media, sound, lighting opportunities the Venture will use binaural sound to immerse audiences in the ride experience.

Arts CAF 'S have continued to build in Woodend and Willenhall and are being developed and led by our new creative producer Bethany Allum. The most recent project is Processions produced by Artichoke and a celebration of the independence of women and women gaining the vote. Groups of women from Woodend, Willenhall and Daimler have worked with professional artists Julia O'Connell and Julie Joannides to create a processional banner inspired by the traditional banners of the time. The groups will travel to London on Sunday JUNE 10TH to take part in a mass procession. The project has developed an appetite for more community neighbourhood activity and groups who will want to work towards something for 2021.

Further projects in the pipeline include Halloween Fiesta , Milesians and Cycle Coventry and details of this work will appear in our next newsletter.
