SCTE - Society for Broadband Professionals, India, Appoints Honorary National Secretary 05 January 2015
News
SCTE India, the Society for Broadband Professionals, today announced that the co-founder of SCTE India, Rahul Nehra, has been appointed as its Honorary National Secretary. In his new role, Nehra will help SCTE India to drive its initiatives as India goes digital in the cable and broadband space.
Nehra is an industry leader in the converged space spanning broadcast technologies, satellite, content and OTT. He has contributed to the success of blue-chip companies like Intelsat, Irdeto, Exset - General Satellite and Latens-Pace globally with a focus in India and Asia over the last two decades.
Nehra is also the founder of Aarti TV and has pioneered international African cinema through his venture, Africa Film Factory. Actively involved in philanthropy, his major projects include Khushika, a non-governmental organization.
Apart from SCTE India, he is also credited as being the co-founder of well-known industry bodies such as the VAS Council, a global initiative in the field of content technology and applications in the multi-screen world.
"We welcome Rahul onboard at a time that is very challenging for broadband operators in India as they complete the government-mandated migration to digital television," said Prem Behl, President, SCTE India. "Rahul is a leading broadcast professional, and his experience and skills will be invaluable for our Society as India goes digital."
As the cable and broadband revolution unfolds across India and South Asia, SCTE India is steadily strengthening its footprint in the region to ensure that it plays an instrumental role in the transition to digital. SCTE India is based in New Delhi, and membership of SCTE India is open to all wireline engineers and technicians throughout the Indian sub-continent.
In response to his appointment, Nehra, Honorary National Secretary of SCTE India, said, "I am delighted to be able to guide and contribute to the endeavours of SCTE India in its mission to bring a paradigm shift in skills requirements for the industry, as this will lay a strong foundation upon which the infrastructure of digital India will be built."
SCTE India is also one of the exhibitors at Indias largest ICT business exhibition, Convergence India. The 23rd edition of the Convergence India 2015 exhibition will be held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, 21-23 January. Visitors to the show can go to the SCTE booth for further understanding of the association and its various undertakings.
About SCTE (www.theSCTE.eu) and SCTE India (www.scte-india.org)
Founded in 1945, the SCTE is a Learned Society and non-profit making organization whose aim is to raise the standard of broadband engineering in the telecommunications industry. The Society particularly concerns itself with the training and career advancement of technical professionals in the field.
Headquartered in Watford (U.K.), the SCTE is a global non-profit organization that is managed by elected volunteers from the broadband industry. The SCTE offers engineers, technicians, installers and professionals involved in broadband telecommunications access to a wide array of professional development opportunities, such as training courses, technical lecture meetings, conferences, exhibitions, accreditation and certification. It also disseminates the latest technical and standards data to members electronically and via the Societys quarterly magazine, Broadband Journal.
In addition, the Society chairs the British Standards Committee for Cable Systems and represents the U.K. at European (CENELEC) and world (IEC) levels. Apart from the U.K., the SCTE has active groups all around the world, notably in India and in the Benelux and Balkan regions. Individual members can be found in 42 countries globally with a concentration in traditional PAL TV areas, such as Europe, China, Australia and South Africa. SCTE training courses have achieved industrywide acceptance as the standard for young technicians wishing to enter the field of broadband telecommunications. Courses are also used by many international organizations.
SCTE India is based in New Delhi and led by nine founding members from the Indian telecoms industry. Like the SCTE, SCTE India is an educational society designed to promote expertise, exchange of information and experience and the training and accreditation of members. Membership of SCTE India is open to all wireline engineers and technicians throughout the Indian sub-continent.
