Progress Launches New Cloud Mobile Development Features in Telerik Platform Release Highlights Great Momentum in First Year After 20,000 apps built, major customer wins and industry accolades, advances to Telerik Platform solution makes mobile development a faster, more powerful experience

BEDFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Progress (NASDAQ: PRGS) today announced the next evolution of its Telerik Platform offering, the only mobile development platform combining rich UI tools and cloud services to build compelling apps, regardless of operating system, device or technology. After a year on the market, the Telerik Platform offering has hit many major milestones, culminating in its latest release, which focuses on speed, powerful mobile app development and testing.

Feature Advancements

Launched in January 2014, the modular, cloud-first, end-to-end vision of Telerik Platform offering is unlike any other in the market today. Furthered with the release of three new modules in June focusing on prototyping, distributing and gathering user feedback, Telerik Platform solution has been widely adopted by developers the world over based on its ease-of-use and agility. Additionally, with the launch of the Verified Plugins Marketplace, the first-of-its-kind gallery of Cordova/PhoneGap plugins, Telerik is building a strong ecosystem of plugins aimed at closing the gaps in creating feature-rich applications using open source Cordova APIs.

Todays Telerik Platform release focuses on speed and powerful mobile development. Equipped with day one support for the latest iOS and Android releases, it offers device cloud testing, enabling automated app testing for hundreds of different devices. According to Gartner, Cloud testing solutions are becoming commonplace in performance and load testing, including performance monitoring. In addition, the demands created by bring your own device (BYOD) programs and development pressure around device-centered computing has created a strong drive to make use of device clouds.1

Another major enhancement, Screen Builder (currently in beta) accelerates PhoneGap app scaffolding and enables both developers and business users to create 80 percent of the mobile app from pre-built and pre-wired screens without ever touching code.

The latest Telerik Platform release also makes mobile development easier and more guided than ever, by providing new mobile app dev quick start templates to get developers building complex mobile apps fast. In addition, the release takes interactive push notifications to the next level with the Telerik Cordova Push plugin with built-in backend services, push troubleshooting logs and a simplified push API.

Finally and most notably, the Telerik open source project, NativeScript , (still in private beta) is gaining strong momentum. In its drive to create the best native development framework, the NativeScript offering now includes robust support for CSS styling of native app UI, an improved cross-platform JavaScript framework, support for third party native libraries and the ability to build native apps using Command Line Interface.
