HP Helps Mobile Operators Enhance Services through Intelligent WiFi Technologies

PALO ALTO, Calif. HP today announced a new solution designed to help mobile network operators (MNOs) improve overall service quality and customer experience by leveraging WiFi technologies.

MNOs around the world are looking to offer WiFi technology as an alternative access method alongside their existing mobile networks. Though WiFi as-a-Service is widely available, most customers are often only offered basic services that lack the quality they require to be productive. MNOs need a comprehensive approach to help plan WiFi as part of their evolution to heterogeneous networking.

Even though WiFi access growth has been impressive, mobile operators need to holistically integrate WiFi into their network instead of exclusively utilizing for access offload. This is critical for ensuring they can provide the same level of personalized services and loyalty programs for WiFi access as they do for primary radio access networks, said Jim Hodges, senior analyst, Heavy Reading. In order to facilitate this transition, vendors such as HP are now bringing to market enhanced HLR/HSS and authentication gateways that seamlessly integrate WiFi with 3G and 4G access.

The new HP WiFi Authentication Gateway (WAuG) software solution that supports seamless authentication and quality customer experience across heterogeneous networks.

WiFi Access Network provides a complete range of LAN equipment for the access network including Wi-Fi access points and controllers, access and aggregation switches, and routers enabling solutions that scale from a small retail location to a sport stadium.

Authentication and routing that resolves end-user identity and verifies service credentials.

Service usage analytics that combine subscriber information with business intelligence to support improved network utilization and better quality of experience.

Policy control and charging where hot spot network selection, policy decisions, charging rules and the business analytics reside.

Gateway and switching with core layer elements of Packet Data Gateway securely links WiFi traffic with the data network.
