Miss Scarlet and The Duke returns to Alibi for a second series

Monday 17 May 2021 Hit nineteenth century crime drama, Miss Scarlet and The Duke, is set to return for a second series on UKTVs dedicated crime drama channel Alibi. The 6x60 series is co-produced by MASTERPIECE and Element 8 Entertainment, with pre-investment from UKTV, a deal brokered by the broadcasters global acquisitions manager, Charlie Charalambous. As part of the deal, the series will also air on BBC First in Benelux and BBC Brit in Africa.

Series one of Miss Scarlet and The Duke was one of the top-rating shows on Alibi in 2020 and has reached over 1.57million individuals since its launch*. Series two sees the return of Kate Phillips (Peaky Blinders, The Crown) as the fearless female detective Eliza Scarlet, alongside Stuart Martin (Medici, Jamestown) as her childhood friend and potential love interest, Inspector William The Duke Wellington.

Miss Scarlet and The Duke is a full-throttle crime drama about the first-ever female detective in Victorian London. After the death of her father (played by Downton Abbeys Kevin Doyle), Eliza Scarlet (Phillips) is left penniless and determined to become a private detective to support herself. Unfortunately, detectives have always been men, but a family friend at Scotland Yard called The Duke (Martin) offers to help. So begins a collaboration that grows into something more ardent.

Miss Scarlet and The Duke is created by Rachael New, who writes the series alongside Ben Edwards. The lead director is Steve Hughes, and the series is distributed by PBSd.

The second series of Miss Scarlet and The Duke will air on Alibi in 2022 and joins an array of UKTV Original dramas airing on the channel later this year. These include Annika, starring Nicola Walker and produced by Black Camel Pictures, and the co-commission with AMC of Ragdoll, which is based on the novel by Daniel Cole and produced by Sid Gentle Films Ltd. The third series of Harrow is also currently airing on Alibi.
