IABM awards honorary membership to Clyde Smi

IABM announces that Clyde Smith, Consultant for New Technologies for FOX Network Engineering and Operations, will be awarded honorary membership at its Annual International Business Conference 2015, held on the 3-4 December, at Radisson Blu Edwardian Heathrow Hotel, London.

The IABM honorary membership, which was first introduced in 2005, recognises the outstanding personal contribution made to the supplier side of the broadcast and media technology market over a period of decades.

Clyde is a long standing supporter of the IABM, having been involved in several key projects and events over the years, and has always been on hand to give advice and support to shape the direction of our industry.

This year marks a decade since we launched the IABM honorary membership and it is a fitting tribute that someone of Clyde Smiths stature is the 2015 recipient.

Smiths current consultancy role at Fox Network Engineering and Operations involves supporting the Broadcast and Cable Sports and Entertainment Networks production, post production and broadcast operating groups, advising on standards, regulations and testing for new technologies. Before his semi-retirement Smith was the Senior Vice President of New Technologies for FOX Network Engineering and Operations.

Throughout his career Smith has been at the forefront of many significant technical and operational initiatives. Prior to joining FOX, Smith was SVP of Global Broadcast Technology and Standards for Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. where he was responsible for the technical arm of the companys domestic and international teams. During his tenure he utilised his broad knowledge of operational and technical systems, playing a key part in integrating facilities for the Groups expansion, including overseeing the technical transition of on-air operations for 19 broadcast cable networks.

As Chief Technical Officer at Speer Worldwide Digital, Smith managed operations of an all-digital facility and led a powerful engineering team in a trial that led to the launch of ABCs Soap Net, production of hundreds of live events and the revitalization of Staples Arena in Los Angeles.

Smith is a fellow of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) and a frequent speaker and honoured guest at meetings for SMPTE, NAB and SBE. He has been a five-term Governor, a former Standards Chairman, and Secretary/Treasurer of SMPTE and has been awarded the SMPTE outstanding service award.
