South Africa's popular series, Shaka Ilembe is approved for a third season by MultiChoice.

MZANSI MAGIC SERIES: SEASON THREE Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela reports that fan-favourite series, Shaka Ilembe is renewed for a third season.

Shaka Ilembe approved for a third season. The epic drama series started shooting its second season a few weeks ago. The Mzansi Magic series was ratings hit as well as lauded by critics for its casting and production.

This comes after MultiChoice CEO General Entertainment Nomsa Philiso confirmed on Monday, 4 September 2023 that the show is renewed for a second season.

BRCSA July 2023 figures revealed that the show which won the hearts of South Africans in 2023 was the most-watched TV show on DStv with 828 000 viewers.

SOUTH AFRICANS CELEBRATE UPCOMING SEASON The channel also reveals that season two of Shaka Ilembe will pick up the story as he begins his long prophesised reign, writing himself into history.

The show introduced viewers to the Zulu, Mthethwa, Qwabe, Ndwandwe, Elangeni and Hlubi, with characters from the vast storyline quickly becoming household names.

Actor Senzo Radebe's most-hated character Senzangakhona got killed in the final episode of season one. While his son Shaka (Lemogang Tsipa) was announced king of the Zulu tribe on Sunday, 3 September 2023.

Other storylines which intrigued audiences included Dingiswayo's son betraying him. When he shared his secrets with long-time rival King Zwide (Wiseman Mncube).

Viewers also predicted that Dingiswayo (Thembinkosi Mthembu) poisoned Senzangakhona, who got sick after visiting his tribe.

SHAKA ILEMBE' SEASON TWO TshisaLIVE reported in 2023 that MultiChoice has confirmed the return of Shaka Ilembe.

Filming of the second season of the popular drama series reportedly started in March 2024.

MultiChoice CEO for general entertainment Nomsa Philiso says they are committed to telling the Shaka Ilembe story.

This season two announcement confirms our intentions to honour the iconic figure of King Shaka with a continuation of his story on air.

The first episode of the historical series, set in the late 1700s and 1800s, drew more than 3.6 million DStv viewers in South Africa. It also reached Nunmber one on the DStv app in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and other African countries.

Philiso is thankful that South Africans, and the rest of the continent have been passionately supportive of the show.

Tuning in to watch weekly, sharing their commentary online and really engaging with this layered story of the Nguni kingdoms, has been fantastic. We are now looking forward to bringing season two to life.

Season two will unveil a new chapter, with new stars, characters and plot lines delivered with the same polish as season one.
