Technicolor Wins Big Across Color, Sound, and VFX at HPA 2017

From work on big screen film adaptations to streaming TV hits to unforgettable Super Bowl ads, Technicolor takes home top honors at 2017 Hollywood Professional Association awards.

In the film category, Technicolor's Michael Hatzer won for his Outstanding Color Grading on Ghost in the Shell.

Technicolor teams split the Outstanding Sound - Television award for their creative sound work on American Gods and Stranger Things - for which the sound team also won an Emmy.

The Mill won for Outstanding Visual Effects - Commercial for one of the most popular Super Bowl ads, Kia's Hero's Journey.

When the 12th Annual HPA Awards were given out at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles on the night of November 16, Technicolor found themselves winning big across a variety of post-production entertainment services for film, episodic television, and advertising released over the year.

In the film category, Technicolor's Michael Hatzer won for his Outstanding Color Grading - Feature Film on Ghost in the Shell. As Supervising Digital Colorist, Hatzer - and his team of Chris Jensen (Second Colorist), Everette Webber (Conform Editor), Jason Myres (Assistant Colorist), Bob Peishel (Senior Producer), and Ladd Lanford (Theatrical Account Executive) - paid homage to the original anime classic.

For Outstanding Sound - Television, it was a two-way tie - with both awards going to Technicolor talent! The award was split between Netflix streaming hit Stranger Things: Chapter 8: The Upside Down episode, with the Technicolor team of Bradley North, Joe Barnett, Adam Jenkins, Jordan Wilby, and Tiffany S. Griffith, and Craig Henighan of Fox - and American Gods: The Bone Orchard episode, again with North and Griffith and the Technicolor team of Joseph DeAngelis, Kenneth Kobett, and David Werntz.

The Mill, from the Technicolor family of brands, also contributed to the big night, with a win for Outstanding Visual Effects - Commercial for Kia's Hero's Journey ad that first ran during the Super Bowl. The winning team from The Mill included Robert Sethi, Chris Knight, Tom Graham, and Jason Bergman.
