AmberFin, a developer of file-based media ingest, transcoding, and quality control solutions for content owners, broadcasters, sports organizations, and postproduction houses announced that the recently launched AmberFin Academy a new industry resource designed to help broadcast professionals navigate the complexities of file-based workflows now has over two thousand subscribers worldwide and is receiving industry-wide support.
With the accelerating pace at which our industry is evolving of late, the need for the right professional development and continuing education opportunities is more crucial than ever, says Joel Welch Director of Professional Development at SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers). Workflows, infrastructure and underpinning technologies move forward such that there seems to be no terminal velocity.' As such, it is imperative that educational organizations such as SMPTE's Professional Development Academy, AmberFin Academy and others continue to expand the scope and depth of services to help ensure industry engineering professionals keep pace. Education and professional development are the enabling factors to a successful future.
Launched at NAB this year, the AmberFin Academy is a non-vendor specific industry resource designed to help broadcast professionals navigate the complexities of file-based workflows.
A free resource that is accessible to all, the AmberFin Academy features a lively, informative and non product specific blog (http://blog.amberfin.com), white papers, media thought leadership, views from experts, tricks and tips, and up to date information on broadcast formats and standards.
Bruce's Shorts: Now With Closed Captions, Foreign Language Subtitles; Series 3 Announced
At the heart of the AmberFin Academy is the highly popular Bruce's Shorts http://www.amberfin.com/shorts series of free training videos and webinars. Hosted by Bruce Devlin, AmberFin's CTO and co-author of the MXF format, the training videos are now available with English closed captions to comply with the latest FCC regulations, as well as with Portuguese and Japanese subtitles. The current series which includes 47 short videos, and a series webinars and recordings of Bruce's Shorts Live from NAB cover a broad range of industry topics including: how to avoid the common mistakes when migrating from tape-based to file-based workflows to the secrets of metadata and which is the best HD format for your facility . AmberFin also announced that a brand new series of Bruce's Shorts would be going into production straight after IBC. The new series, which will be available at the end of the year, will feature new training videos and webinars reflecting latest industry trends and developments.
New MXF Desktop
At IBC in September (stand# 7.H39), as part of the Academy, AmberFin will introduce a brand new version of its free MXF (Material eXchange Format) Desktop software application. MXF Desktop is an essential tool for the media professional making Windows environments MXF aware . It enables MXF playback and basic analysis on the desktop and provides simple-to-use wizards to unwrap and wrap MXF files to/from elementary streams. The new version includes the support for the latest MXF standards and support Windows 7,8 Server 2008 and Server 2012 operating systems.
