rbb Potsdam adds Snell to MCR

Germany's Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb) Potsdam has installed multiple routers from Snell's Sirius 800 series for its main control room. rbb has added a second Sirius 830, as well as an 840 router, with the aim of enhancing its HD production capabilities.

The routers support SD, HD, ASI and 3Gbps signals. The Sirius 830 offers 140 additional multiviewer outputs and 288 288 video in a 15RU footprint. The Sirius 840 combines 576 576 video and 140 additional multiviewer outputs within its 27RU frame.

The Sirius 800 series offers Advanced Hybrid Processing, enabling extensive processing on all inputs and outputs including embedded audio routing, audio track swapping, frame or line synchronisation. This allows any combination of embedded, discrete AES and MADI signals to be routed, avoiding the need for wrap-around signals.

These new installations have allowed us to maximise our HD production and create greater efficiency throughout our workflow, explained Wolfgang Hanke, head of technology, rbb. The Sirius routers save space and power but also allow us to reconfigure our studios quickly and easily, saving set up time between different live formats and making our production process much smoother. The Catsii facility and built-in front door PC provide a wealth of immediately available status and diagnostic information but ultimately the routers' robustness and ease of operation were key considerations for us.

In a time where HD is now a given, rbb were quick to recognise that by upping their offering in this area they would be able to meet the growing demands of their viewers, said Stefan Geradts, Snell sales director for Central and Eastern Europe.
