From the NBA Draft to the NBA All-Star Game and, of course, the NBA Finals, the sport of professional basketball connects with fans in a way few sports are capable of doing. In addition to the production of the games themselves, the pre-game, half-time, and OTT and streaming services continue to evolve to ensure that fans remain as connected to the sport as ever. At the SVG Summit on Dec. 12, a panel featuring top Turner Sports, NBA, and ESPN execs addressed how the league and its broadcast partners are evolving their relationship with fans and what next-generation technologies will make a difference.
Here are a few highlights from the session:
The NBA's Steve Hellmuth (EVP, Media Operations and Technology) and David Denenberg (SVP, Global Media Distribution and Business Affairs) address the success of the NBA Mobile View camera and how the league is finding new ways to utilize this unique camera angle at every NBA arena.
Turner Sports Director Matt Lipp goes behind the curtain on how the NBA on TNT integrates the Inside the NBA studio show into game broadcasts.
David Denenberg, NBA Entertainment, SVP, Global Media Distribution and Business Affairs, goes inside how the league, ESPN, and Turner worked together during the offseason to improve game flow and keep fans engaged, including two-box commercials and reduced late-game breaks.
Tim Corrigan, ESPN, Senior Coordinating Producer, NBA, and David Denenberg, NBA Entertainment, SVP, Global Media Distribution and Business Affairs detail the importance of player mics on NBA game telecasts and how the technology has evolved over the past decade.
Turner Sports Senior Director of Tech Ops Chris Brown highlights how NBATV is integrating off-site commentators, including Dennis Scott, into NBA game broadcasts to add a dynamic new elements to its coverage.
Turner Sports Director Matt Lipp discusses the success of TNT's Players-Only' NBA series and how other networks are looking to launch similar iterations of the concept.
