Reeling in the Years continues to draw big audiences on RT One and RT Player

Reeling in the Years drawing audience of 520,000 this season on RT One, with 250,000 streams on RT Player

Highest figures for a first run of the popular series since it debuted on RT

The current series of Reeling in the Years to date has had the highest series average so far in its history, since its debut over 20 years ago. The consolidated avg. so far is 520,000 (based on available data 2010 to 2016). In addition, there have been 250,000 streams so far on the RT Player, making it one of the highest streamed series of the year (this is the first year the series has been available on the RT Player). Reeling in the Year has a very broad audience appeal, delivering strong shares across different demographics; with young viewers notably, the series to date has had a share of 49.9% among 15 to 34s. Reflecting this appeal, Reeling in the Years features in the Top 10 TV Programmes for both Individuals and Adults 15-34 so far this year.

Producer John O'Regan said: This is the 6th series of Reeling in the Years and we are delighted to see that the audience ratings are the highest ever for a first run of broadcast. The production aim of the programme has always been the same - to offer RT viewers a selection of stories from news, sport, current affairs, and entertainment, with a soundtrack that showcases Irish music along with some of the biggest international hits of a year. We made the Nineties series in 2000, the Noughties series in 2010, and this 2010-2019 series adds another 10 programmes to the collection. It's great to see the audience response to this series, making it the most-watched yet on a first transmission.

This Sunday's episode of Reeling in the Years looks at 2018, the year the Beast From The East' brought blizzards and freezing temperatures across the country. Pope Francis came to Ireland on a two-day visit, the Irish men's rugby team celebrated a Grand Slam and the Irish women's hockey team reached the World Cup final. 2018 was also the year Ireland went to the polls in a referendum to repeal the Eighth Amendment. The episode includes music from Ariana Grande, Jess Glynne, Dermot Kennedy and George Ezra.

Reeling in the Years continues on Sunday at 8.30pm on RT One and RT Player.
