Last month, the third-annual SVG Teams Summit offered an update on studio-based productions at the team level and took a look at how pro sports franchises are developing new ways to connect with audiences and understand the latest technologies and workflows that help generate content.

Ever since the inception of cameras on helicopters, teams have been infatuated with proving aerial views that humans are incapable of seeing on their own. Over time, devices like high-speed drones have taken over this sector by squeezing through tight spaces and soaring in areas of venues that have never been seen before.

At the 2023 SVG Teams Summit, representatives from two professional franchises -Kansas City Chiefs' VP of Content and Production Rob Alberino and Chicago Cubs' Assistant Director of Broadcasting Joe Rios - and two drone experts - JayByrd Films' Owner and Head Pilot/Cinematographer Jay Christensen and Sky Candy Studios' Owner and CEO Mike Welsh - discuss the thought process behind these creative pieces, the technology that is making these shots possible, the challenges that come with each scene, and how this style of cinematic footage is impacting fans' relationship with their home stadium or arena.
