Following four days of intense auditions, the highly-anticipated Idols SA season 18 Theatre Week officially began. On Sunday 14 August's episode of the talent competition, 93 golden ticket winners arrived for Theatre Week but not all the contestants had the chance to move on to the next round.

IDOLS SA' THEATRE WEEK BEGINS Idols SA Theatre Week kicked off on a high note as the 93 golden ticket winners stepped onto the stage for the first round of auditions. Some wowed judges Somizi Mhlongo, Thembi Seete and JR Bogopa, but others failed to impress.

The contestants were then split into three rooms and anxiously waited for the judges to let them know what was next. The singers in room 1 automatically moved to the next round while those in room 2 were sent packing.

Some of the contestants in room 3 were also sent packing and in total, 41 Idols SA dreams were cut. The remaining 52 contestants were paired up for the duet round of the competition.

THE STAKES ARE HIGH FOR THE DUET ROUND Somizi said the duet round was about seeing who can work well under pressure and who will crack .

When you get to the live shows, they will need to embrace the pressure and feed off it. Because guys, it's a wow Performing for Mzansi? That is pressure, he continued.

What I like about a duet, is that the couples will really need to get into character, said Thembi Seete.

Some contestants were pleased with the songs they were given while others were left feeling nervous. Mpiwenhle and SongKarabo sang Kelly Khumalo and Mondli Ngcobo's Ngathwala Ngaye which JR praised as a technically flawless performance.

Praising Mphiwenhle and SongKarabo's duet, one tweep wrote: Mpilwenhle's voice is amazing. Effortless. Love it.
