SCTE, ALPHA TECHNOLOGIES PARTNER ON DC POWER LEVEL 1' JULY 30-31 COURSE TO DRIVE UNDERSTANDING OF BACKUP POWERING OPTIONS

JUNE 26, 2013 (Atlanta, GA) The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) and Alpha Technologies today announced an intensive course that is intended to increase understanding of how DC power can provide the backup powering needed to ensure service reliability for critical facilities serving cable telecommunications networks.

"DC Power Level 1" is designed to provide facilities and infrastructure professionals with the hands-on training needed to gain technical knowledge of DC power (-48VDC) as a safe, reliable, long-duration source for cable system operators' energy needs. The two-day course will cover key subject areas, including: safety; theory and mathematics; design; application; monitoring; batteries; maintenance; and operation of DC power systems and components.

Developed to align with SCTE's Smart Energy Management Initiative (SEMI), DC Power Level 1 is scheduled for Tuesday, July 30 to Wednesday, July 31 at Alpha Technologies' Suwanee, Ga., facility. Class size is strictly limited to 12 people, and tuition assistance is available through the SCTE Foundation. "As cable networks deliver increasingly more essential telecommunications services, it's important that facilities and infrastructure are hardened against service interruptions," said Greg Zediker, director, critical facilities power and construction for Alpha Technologies. "DC power is becoming the preferred method for cable system operators to create the energy reliability that can assure delivery of the services that their customers require."

"The need for cable operators to recover quickly from natural or man-made service outages is a core component of our SEMI initiative," said Derek DiGiacomo, senior director, information technologies and energy management programs for SCTE. "Working together with Alpha Technologies, we've created a comprehensive program that can ease the DC Power learning curve for cable operators and their key facilities and infrastructure management."
