BRITS CAN T KEEP A SECRET

New research out today reveals that while 82 per cent of people assure confidantes that they would never share a secret they were told, half (49 per cent) admit to passing on confidential information to their partner and more than one in three (35 per cent) confess to sharing secrets with their family.

The research, commissioned by film and TV streaming service Amazon's LOVEFiLM, was carried out to mark the arrival of Emmy-winning US drama Scandal exclusively on LOVEFiLM in the UK.

Those who have confided in others should beware, as over a third (32 per cent) of Brits believe that telling secrets to their other half is not a breach of confidence. In the extreme, one in ten (nine per cent) let slip that they cannot resist sharing other people's secrets, regardless of what they are and who they belong to.

It was revealed that the average Brit is keeping two secrets under wraps at any one time, and those that belong to their extended and immediate family are valued the least. Over one in five (21 per cent) admit that they are more likely to spill a piece of hush-hush information about their relatives over anyone else in their lives.

In contrast our partners' secrets are safest, with three quarters (74 per cent) of those polled saying they would never spill the beans about their lovers. Friends were also shown to be trustworthy, with just 15 per cent admitting they would divulge sensitive details about their pals.

Scandal stars Kerry Washington ( Django Unchained , The Last King of Scotland ) as a professional crisis manager to the President, the scandals and secrets in her own life threaten to come to light as she rushes to carry out damage control for all those around her.

Scandal is full of brilliant cat-out-of-the-bag moments, the cast are compelling to watch as they struggle to keep everything under wraps and viewers would be forgiven for wondering who in their lives they can really trust to keep schtum.
