South Africa cinema to showcase in the UK

According to Basil Dube SAFTEC spokesperson and event promoter, the main purpose of the partnership is to organize and implement a touring festival of South African cinema and complementary events across the UK in October 2014, in celebration of 20 years of South African freedom and democracy. This seminal event will coincide with the 9th edition of the Africa In Motion Film Festival taking place in Edinburgh and Glsgow.

We have formalized our co-operation with our UK counter-parts. Our next phase is to engage with key film industry stakeholders and government institutions, including the National Film and Video Foundation, DTI, Gauteng Film Commission and the IDC said Dube a former organizer of the Cosatu affiliated Musicians Union of South Africa.

SAFTEC is a voluntary South African consortium made up of various industry training and film events managers and promoters including Rewith Entertainment, Bojanala Film Festival, Jintek Film School, MC Art Academy, Gauteng Women Filmmakers Association, Limpopo Film Festival, Filmmakers of Passion (FOP) AND Ebenezer Talent.

Dube said that the South Africa festival in the UK will serve as a pre-eminent platform to showcase South African films to the world, as well as celebrating South Africas liberation heritage through cinema, literature and music.

During the apartheid years poets, artists and musicians were banned. Films such as Cry Freedom, Mapantsula, A Dry White Season and many other anti-apartheid documentaries were censored by the regime says Dube.
