High Fives Takes Adaptive Aletes Fly Fishing in Big Sky Country

In late July of this year, the High Fives Foundation, Access Unlimited and Craig Hospital joined forces to offer six adaptive athletes an opportunity to float the waters of Big Sky country and cast their lines into some of the most famous fly fishing spots in North America.

Now confined to wheelchairs, High Fives Foundation athletes Jasmin Bambur, Tim Burr, Jason Abraham, Jesse Alberi, Jocelyn Judd and Matt Leonard suffered tramatic injuries, but have fought back diligently with the support of Craig Hospital. Now graduates of Craigs programs, these folks have taken back their individual destinies.

Descending onto the Big C4 Lodge in Dillon, Montana, the attending athletes joined guides and volunteers on the Big Hole and Beaver Head Rivers for an experience not likely to be soon forgotten.

With the Montana sky above, the athletes got their first taste at fishing since their indiviudal accidents and the excursion gave them a chance to catch some fish, have plenty of laughs, and experience the amazing landscape of "Americas Last Great Place."

Over the course of three days, many fish were caught and released, smiles followed, and memories were created and captured. For most of the athletes, this was a first of its kind outing for them since their accidents, and it offered a sense of freedom and adventure that is not common with individuals that have sustained a life-altering injury.
