Telenor launches mobile phones on Firefox OS in Serbia Press Releases: 28 November 2013

Telenor today brings the Alcatel One Touch Fire to its customers in Serbia. Telenor is also launching Firefox OS based phones in Hungary and Montenegro.

At the Mobile World congress in Barcelona earlier this year, Telenor announced the cooperation with Mozilla with the aim of bringing mobile phones on Firefox operative system to customers in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). With this market launch, Telenor Serbia now delivers on the promise of bringing Firefox OS based smartphones to customers in the region.

I am pleased to see that our customers in Serbia, Hungary and Montenegro will be able to enjoy mobile phones on Firefox OS, providing them with high-quality Internet experience before Christmas. Through this launch, we are one step closer to connecting the next billion customers to the web, said EVP and Head of Telenor Digital, Rolv-Erik Spilling.

Firefox OS is a truly open system that frees consumers and developers from the limitations of existing ecosystems through the use of the web as an access platform to all features and applications. Its design and construction with open source also allows a constant and rapid evolution of the system through collaborative work with Mozilla.

Coinciding with the launch in Serbia, Telenor will also launch smartphones on Firefox OS in Montenegro and Hungary. Asian markets will follow.
