KCETs Five-Part Documentary Series, Bridge to Iran to Explore Womens Rights During the 009 Iranian Presidential Elections with film, We Are Half of Irans Population

Burbank, Calif. - Nov. 18, 2013 - As part of KCETs five-part documentary series, Bridge to Iran, exploring the rich lives of Iranian citizens and the vibrant Persian culture, the fourth installment, We Are Half of Irans Population, chronicling womens rights during the 2009 Iranian presidential elections, will premiere on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 9 p.m.

An initimate and timely look at the country, We Are Half of Irans Population, chronicles the three months prior to Irans presidential elections in June 2009. Iranian womens rights activists -- consisting of a vast spectrum of different points of views from religious to secular and ordinary women -- are filmed posing their questions to the 10 candidates; three candidates discuss their opinions after watching the film. Former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, however, is not willing to take part in the film or provide a response. The film addresses pressing contemporary issues and exposes candid opinions.

By the time the film is finished, three individuals who participated in the film are thrown in prison, falling victim to the massive post-election detentions and shedding light on the reality of the situation for women in Iran.

Bridge to Iran, hosted by Parisa Soultani is a co-production of CEM Productions and KCETLink. The series carries viewers into the lives of Iranian citizens and into the heart and soul of Persian culture, opening new windows on a largely unknown but vibrant society at a critical point in world history.
