SMC Activates Sharjah s First Government Communication Network

Sharjah Media Centre (SMC) has adopted a strategic plan to activate the Government Communication Network (GCN), a first-of-its-kind network involving all government entities in Sharjah.

The plan, which aims to improve work mechanisms and upgrade government communication in the emirate, was outlined in a meeting that was held by SMC at the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday morning.

In the presence of government communication professionals from government entities in Sharjah, the meeting discussed the best practices and latest developments in the field of government communication, as well as the challenges faced by those entities. It saw an exchange of views on new tools and mechanisms to enhance government communication. The workshop included an orientation on a number of reference guides that had been previously distributed among government institutions to supply them with the information they need about media crisis management and strategic government communication.

In her speech during the meeting, Hessa Alhammadi, Manager of SMC's Government Communication Unit (GCU), said: The Government Communication Network is the fruit of tireless efforts based on our work as one team with similar objectives. These objectives reflect the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to create a distinctive government communication system for all Sharjah government entities to share.

She indicated that government entities in Sharjah had made great strides in strengthening the bonds of cooperation between them and establishing the importance of teamwork, along with encouraging participation in decision-making within the government communication network, which adopts the methodology of the GCU.

On the reference guides that had been provided by SMC to the GCN members, Alhammadi said that they had been prepared according to tight standards to provide comprehensive information on how to manage media crises and benefit from strategic communication.

She added: Today's world is being swept by changes, which makes us all vulnerable to media crises. Out of our keenness to limit the negative impact of such crises, maintain excellent performance and build a solid government communication base, we have put in your hands this valuable reference material.

The guides provide all the necessary information for professionals in the field of government communication and answer a lot of questions related to emergencies and crises to reduce their negative effects.

The meeting included a detailed presentation on SMC's government support programme, which is aimed at developing effective communication skills in all Sharjah government authorities, and a panel discussion about the GCN. It also included an orientation on how to use SMC's reference guides to establish the concept of coordination between government entities and transparency in sharing information with the media.
