KCET Marks the 50 Anniversary of the Aaination of President John F. Kennedy with Two Documentaries on Nov.

Burbank, Calif. - Nov. 4, 2013 - KCET will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the assassination of 35th President John F. Kennedy with two riveting documentaries on Nov. 22, 2013, chronicling this turbulent time in American history.

JFK: Breaking the News (8 p.m.) offers a close-up look at how reporters responded to a national tragedy. Through the lens of journalists working in Dallas in 1963, audiences will learn about the moment-by-moment experiences of those who covered one of the most significant events in U.S. history. Their reflections also allow us to witness the remarkable rise of television as a primary source for breaking news coverage. Narrated by Jane Pauley, the documentary also reveals the tremendous technical obstacles that had to be overcome and the immediate journalistic decisions that accompanied the initial live remote broadcasts generated by television four decades ago.

The Kennedy Half-Century (9 p.m.), based on Larry Sabatos new book, chronicles the impact and influence of President Kennedys life, administration and tragic death on the public, media and every subsequent U.S. president. Kennedys legacy endured in large part due to the early efforts of family and friends, but also through former presidents, including Lyndon Johnsons Great Society programs, Ronald Reagans tax cuts and Cold War strategies, Bill Clintons admiration and Kennedy-Obama comparisons in the 2008 presidential campaign. The compelling one-hour documentary features interviews with major political and media figures, including Bob Schieffer, Ron Reagan Jr., Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Ari Fleischer, James Carville, Julian Bond, Andrew Bell and Sabato, among others.
