In hopes to inspire creativity in Mzansi, TikTok and the 28th South African Music Awards (SAMAs) have announced the nominees for the first-ever TikTok Viral Song of the Year category. The award recognises and celebrates local songs and artists that have dominated South Africa.

TIKTOK AND SAMAS ANNOUNCE TIKTOK VIRAL SONG OF THE YEAR NOMINEES In the past year, several tracks have been used several times on TikTok before making their debut on the South African music charts. Voting for the TikTok Viral Song of the Year Award at the SAMAs will take place on the TikTok app and the winner will be announced at the awards on 28 August.

Music is a special part of TikTok's creative DNA and we have seen that songs going viral on the platforms generally do well on streaming services such as well, said Yuvir Pillay, TikTok's Music Operations Lead for SSA.

This plays an important role in the recognition of songs and artists and influences other areas such as nominations, chart ranking and sales. We are honoured to have joined forces with an event like the SAMAs that boast the finest local music talent and contributes to the growth of the music industry.

NANDI MADIDA TO HOST THE SAMAS Singer and media personality Nandi Madida has been announced as the first host for the 28th annual SAMAs. In a statement, Madida expressed her excitement about hosting the awards show.
