Supporting the British and Irish Lions Tour South Africa Cardiff, Wales, UK, 21st July 2022 - Whisper Cymru selected MatrixStore Cloud and MatrixStore Vision from Object Matrix to support its coverage of the British and Irish Lions Tour.
Whisper Cymru, part of Whisper TV, a global network of production, post-production and broadcast specialists, wanted an efficient approach to protecting and managing rushes and finished content that also allowed for better collaboration between production teams and corporate partners. This was especially important during the British and Irish Lions Rugby Tour which was severely disrupted due to COVID-19 and eventually took place without fans.
Object Matrix's MatrixStore Cloud is a highly secure, scalable and media focused storage platform that enables production customers like Whisper Cymru to focus on producing great content and not wasting effort and resource on media management. The cost-effective storage solution comes with file acceleration integrations and intuitive media-focused interfaces that make protecting, finding, and sharing content straightforward.
MatrixStore Cloud was used alongside Object Matrix's Vision, a web-based media and metadata management application, to manage and deliver content from South Africa, in 2021. In a series first, Whisper was responsible for protecting the content from both the British and Irish Lions and the Springboks camps meaning the solution needed strict access control capabilities and built in auditing in order to prove content was not accessed by unauthorised personnel.
During the tour, Whisper Cymru shot live, created and distributed fast turnaround social content, as well as delivering all partner and commercial activation, and contributing towards the final documentary series. MatrixStore enabled the team to seamlessly share content with the teams, ensuring it was kept secure and only available to authorised users.

With the Whisper team in a bio-bubble on site needing to both store and collaborate on media with each other and the team back in Wales, it was important that it could be done seamlessly and in the cloud, rather than having to transport on local disk drives. The team very quickly embraced MatrixStore Cloud and was able to provide excellent coverage capturing the live action.
Object Matrix attended an event from Whisper Cymru on Tuesday; an evening with Warren Gatland. During the event, he reflected on the Lions tour and discussed the challenges around doing the tour during a pandemic.
