NAMM 2021: Zoom G6

Flagship guitar multi-effects pedal announced

Zoom have used this years virtual NAMM show to show off their new flagship guitar multi-effects unit, which they say distills the companys 30 years of experience in the pedal business into their most powerful processor to date.

The new G6 sports a colour touchscreen, which you can use to adjust parameters, navigate menus and reorder effects chains using all the familiar phone-style touch and swipe gestures. In addition to its six footswitches, the G6 has a rocker pedal for controlling wah, volume and whammy-style effects, as well as a bank of four rotary encoders beneath the touchscreen.

As well as emulating pretty much every guitar effect you can think of, the G6 contains a powerful amp modeller, and can apparently cover every guitar style, from blues to djent (Google it). It even has a convolution engine, and ships with 70 impulse responses of miked-up cabinets - or you can store and use up to 100 of your own.

A backing rhythm player is included, with 68 preset drum parts across a range of styles and time signatures, and you can incorporate those drums into fully fleshed-out performances using the built-in looper. The looper section can accommodate a massive 256 audio loops, and when paired with a suitably capacious SD card, will let you loop performances up to 2 hours long.

Connection-wise, the G6 has a guitar jack input (obviously), an aux input for playing along to external sources, and a stereo pair of output jacks. Theres a USB port round the back too, via which the G6 can act as a 2-in/2-out audio interface.

Its priced around the £500 mark, and is due to start shipping this Spring.
