The 4K future: Rohde & Schwarz presents its UHD solutions Munich, Apr 08, 2014 - Rohde & Schwarz will present its solutions for the entire 4K video transmission path at NAB 2014 in Las Vegas. The company offers products for post production, ingest, storage, playout, encoding and multiplexing. The new transmitter families from Rohde & Schwarz are also ideal for 4K broadcasting. The companys T&M instruments support the development and production of 4K consumer electronics.
Rohde & Schwarz offers a complete line of solutions to help the broadcast industry roll out the high-resolution 4K standard. Through its subsidiary Rohde & Schwarz DVS , the company's experience with 4K in the area of cinema post production dates back to 2005.
Post production
The CLIPSTER mastering station processes 4K data in realtime. It ingests high-resolution material and is compatible with numerous RAW camera formats and codecs such as Sony XAVC. The mastering station also plays an important role in the 4K processing chain when it comes to content distribution. Since CLIPSTER supports the interoperable master format (IMF) mezzanine format, users can also create IMF packages. It supports 4K high frame rate DCI mastering, including Dolby Atmos .
Storage
Rohde & Schwarz DVS will present its innovative, scalable SpycerBox Cell storage solution capable of storing the massive data volumes used in 4K production environments. It is perfect for processing HD, 4K or higher resolution data in TV and post production workflows. The SpycerBox Cell takes up only one height unit and contains 30 hot-swappable drives.
Presentation
At NAB, Rohde & Schwarz DVS will launch its new Pronto4K-HFR player. This latest addition to the family of digital disk recorders enables high-quality video presentations. The high-resolution content player makes it possible to play out uncompressed material up to 4K/60p RGB 12 bit over four DisplayPort 1.1 interfaces. The flexibility of the Pronto4K-HFR makes it the ideal solution for big screens and LCD screens at trade fairs, concerts or theme parks. For uncompressed 4K material, it will reach speeds up to 120p (120 frames per second) by the end of the year to produce an especially harmonious and detailed picture with a high level of sharpness.
Encoding and multiplexing
The R&S AVHE100 headend from Rohde & Schwarz supports realtime processing of 4K content. This system solution is fully compatible with the new high efficiency video coding (HEVC) standard for 4K and HD. The R&S AVHE100 synchronizes incoming 3G SD signals to generate a 4K image. The HEVC encoder processes the 4K data and creates an MPEG transport stream in line with the DVB standard. The output signal can be distributed via ASI or IP.
Transmitters
The R&S Tx9 transmitter families from Rohde & Schwarz can broadcast 4K content. They combine very high power density with innovative technologies such as MultiTX, which enables multiple transmitters to be installed in a single rack. The transmitters also offer top energy efficiency and flexibility, enabling network operators and broadcasters to lower the costs arising from high energy prices and rents.
T&M instruments
Rohde & Schwarz T&M instruments support the development and production of 4K consumer electronics. The R&S BTC broadcast test center offers users an all-in-one, single-box test environment for nearly all audio, video and multimedia applications and internally analyzes audio/video in realtime. The highly scalable, modular concept allows the R&S BTC to be customized to meet any customer requirement. It even supports the transmission of 4K signals to set-top boxes and TV sets.
The R&S VTC, R&S VTE and R&S VTS video testers enable extensive testing of consumer equipment with video processing. Since they support both analysis and generation of HDMI signals with resolutions up to 4K, users can test the interface (including the relevant control protocols and certification) as well as the entire DUT.
The complete range of 4K equipment from Rohde & Schwarz will be on display April 7 9, 2014 at NAB in Las Vegas (South Lower Hall, booth 1605).
