Eutelsat joins the war on interference

Eutelsat and Cobham Technical Services will be joining the military in a London workshop on combatting interference. Conquering Interference: The Next Big SatCom Challenge' will take place at London's Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel on 4 November and is hosted by the Satellite Interference Reduction Group (IRG) and the Global VSAT Forum (GVF).

We are keen to engage the military and get them involved in our interference prevention initiatives, commented Martin Coleman, Executive Director, IRG. For these initiatives to work we need full support from across the chain and the military is a crucial part of that. The workshop is the continuation of a wider campaign aimed at engaging the military.

Bringing together operator, installer and equipment supplier perspectives, the workshop will look at the main sources of interference in satellite communications links and explore why interference is becoming an ever increasing issue.

Workshop presenters will include Eutelsat head of payload engineering and operations Mark Rawlins, Cobham Technical Services technical executive, antenna systems, Martin Shelley, IRG executive director Martin Coleman, and GVF chief of international programme development Martin Jarrold.

Interference is a potential issue for all satellite service users, commented David Hartshorn, Secretary General, GVF. However, for the military it can literally be a matter of life and death if valuable communication links are severed, even momentarily.

The Global VSAT Forum (GVF) is the single and unified voice of the global satellite industry'. Founded in 1997, it brings together organisations engaged in the delivery of advanced broadband and narrowband satellite services to consumers, and commercial and government enterprises worldwide.
