ASTRO KASIH Presents RM140,000 to 3 Schools in East Malaysia for Education

In support of its Sustainability focus on championing equal access to education for all, Astro Kasih will present a total of RM140,000 and school supplies to three schools including SK Malinsau, SK Magandai and SK Sungai Paku as well as Starfish Malaysia Foundation recently. The contributions were proceeds from the Astro Kasihs Walk for Education held in May 2022 at Putrajaya.

Today, 264 students at SK Malinsau each received an Astro Kasih school bag filled with learning materials while the schools headmaster, Cikgu Jamain received RM40,000 for education from Astros Group CEO, Henry Tan.

Henry Tan, Astros Group CEO said, At Astro, we believe that every child has the right to education and we are committed to use our platform, reach, content and resources to give all children in Malaysia equal access to quality learning in order to open minds for a brighter future. Astro Kasihs dedication to education is in its 10th year and we continue to be inspired by the dedication of all teachers and students in SK Malinsau, SK Magandai and SK Sungai Paku. We remain committed to do more programmes to improve learning among our students.

The headmaster of SK Malinsau, Cikgu Jamain shared that Astro has been very supportive towards our childrens education by building a hostel near the school so our students are able to reduce their travel time and spend more time on their studies. Our school was also provided with Astro service and learning content to help our students learning. As a result, we have seen the academic performance of our students in BM (Comprehension) improve in the passing rate from 62.5% to 100% from year 2012 to year 2017.

Astro Kasih, the sustainability arm of Astro has organised a Walk for Education event on 28 May at Taman Wetland Putrajaya to raise awareness and gather support for remote students who walk to school every day, which usually takes them an average of two and a half hours. The Walk event attracted over 2,000 participants and each participant was encouraged to carry a school bag filled with learning supplies and walk a 5km trail so that they can experience what it is like to simulate walking in the shoes of a student living in remote areas.
