EVS today took the wraps off of LSM-VIA, a new instant replay system that takes IP technology and couples it with familiar tactile controls (and a couple of new buttons and a new touchscreen) to give replay operators a much higher level of replay functionality. More importantly, by decoupling the operation of LSM-VIA from the server that manages multiple channel a large number of new deployment models are supported, including the ability for the operator to work from almost anywhere.

The new LSM-VIA brings takes advantage of IP technology to transform instant replay operations.

With LSM-VIA, we're reinventing the operation, workflows and deployment of live production replays to enable more creativity while optimizing operators' resources and talents, says EVS CEO Serge Van Herck. LSM-VIA doesn't just offer a new level of control; it completely redesigns the operator experience.

Laurent Petit, EVS, SVP products and solutions, says the EVS engineering team worked closely with operators to reinvent the user experience and tailor it for live-production needs.

Brady Jones, an EVS operator based in the U.S., took part in the unveiling and discussed his thoughts on the new system and what it means to himself and other EVS operators.

It's a new yet familiar working environment so we can operate the same way we are accustomed to, but we can work more quickly and efficiently, he says.

Among the features that leaped out to Jones is a faster and more responsive screen, longer clip names so that the replay and editing team can have the same information, and the ability to cut, copy, and paste multiple clips.

The viewer also has multiple layout options is very clean, concise, and no clutter, he adds.

And by taking advantage of the XNet-VIA Ethernet media sharing network replay operators on the network with XT3 and XT4K servers can use Shotbox to share any clips or playlist, regardless of where it is located on the network, and can even map clips to short-cut keys.

There's no need for multiple keystrokes, he explains. I can take clips from distant servers and dump them into my playlist which is very practical and straightforward.

Jan Mokallai, EVS, solutions specialist, says a new touchscreen offers contextual menus so that all functions can be brought up for a clip. And six shortcut buttons allow for favorite functions to be built and accessed with the push of a button.

Adds Van Herck: From the contemporary interface to the entire VIA production environment, to distributed asset management linked to enhanced metadata, EVS' new IP-based replay and highlights solution provides operators with a more productive, flexible and efficient environment to work in.
