R.I.P. Paul Walker

Fast & Furious star Paul Walker perished in a car accident over the weekend. He was 40 years old.

According to the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, the crash occurred around 3:30pm on Saturday afternoon, in Valencia, California.

The car, a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, was being driven by his friend Roger Rodas.

Minutes earlier, they had attended a car show for Walker's charity Reach Out WorldWide.

Shooting of the seventh Fast & Furious instalment had begun several months ago, but was on hold over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Though it's unknown how much footage Walker had participated in, the production was set to move to Abu Dhabi in January, suggesting there are still key scenes left to capture.

Director James Wan and Universal Studios discussed how to move forward in a conference call on Sunday morning, THR reports.

It is unknown if Fast & Furious 7 will meet its July 2014 release date.

His co-stars offered their condolences on social media.

Vin Diesel tweeted, Brother, I will miss you very much. Heaven has gained a new angel. Rest in peace xxx.

Dwayne Johnson offered, All my strength, love & faith to the Walker family during this heartbreaking time. We find our strength.. in his light. Love you brother.

Walker's career began in the 1980s, with small roles in a number of sitcoms and soap operas.

He established himself as a heartthrob in the 1990s with roles in Pleasantville, She's All That, and The Skulls.

His first major starring role came in 2001 s The Fast and the Furious, opposite Diesel. They reunited in the fourth entry of the saga, and since then have helped grow the franchise into one of the world's biggest.

Walker took on more dramatic performances in the acclaimed films Flags of our Fathers and Running Scared.

Besides the seventh Fast & Furious movie, he will be next seen in the indie features Hours, Pawn Shop Chronicles, and Brick Mansions.

Walker is survived by his 15-year-old daughter, Meadow.
