Venue News: MSU Breaks Ground on Venue Expansion; Ball State to Install Two HD Video Boards

Michigan State University about two weeks ago broke ground on a $24.5 million, two-level expansion at its football venue's north side. Work will continue throughout this football season, with the project slated for completion in July 2014. Spartan Stadium's new addition will house a recruitment center for all sports, a campus-wide media center, new football locker rooms and team spaces, support spaces, media rooms, additional restrooms, concessions, donor plazas, and renovated entry gates to comply with Homeland Security recommendations. Fans also will see improvements to the concourse area, restrooms, and the concession areas

Ball State is finally catching up with the rest of the Mid-American Conference programs and installing video screens in its football stadium and basketball arena. This season, Ball State will install a 33 feet wide by 18 feet tall jumbo high-definition video screen at Scheumann Stadium. Crowds in Worthen Arena for volleyball matches and basketball games will be treated to the same 12-millimeter resolution, high-definition LED screen, albeit on a slightly smaller scale at 23 feet wide by 12 feet tall. The Scheumann Stadium screen will be installed the week of Aug. 19 and will be ready for the season-opening game Aug. 29. The video board for Worthen Arena will be installed a few days after the one in Scheumann in a yet to be determined location

As the massive renovation of Madison Square Garden draws to a close over the next 12 weeks, arena officials are introducing three new premium-seat products at the arena's highest level. The new lounge club seats, group hospitality lounges and Chase Bridge seats open this fall on the 10th floor as MSG officials put the finishing touches on a three-year, $980 million makeover. Before the upgrades, the 71 suites on the 10th floor were among the worst locations for skyboxes in major league sports, and many were unsold before the renovation, sources familiar with the situation said
