House of Zwide': Fashion drama takes second spot on e.tv with over 4 million viewers House of Zwide' is gunning for the number one spot while Scandal!' remains the most watched show with 5.23 million viewers.

E.tv's latest fashion drama House of Zwide which replaced Rhythm City last month (July) surpassed all expectations with its premiere on 19 July when it pulled a mind-blowing 4.24 million viewers.

The Broadcast Research Council of South Africa reported that the soapie is now the second most-watched show on e.tv after Scandal which has 5.23 million viewers followed by Imbewu: The Seed with 3.89 million.

HOUSE OF ZWIDE': VIEWERS RELATE TO THE CHARACTERS House of Zwide Executive Producer Tebogo Nkwana told Sowetan that the numbers prove that viewers are relating to the characters on the show and that the storylines are relevant and compelling viewers intrigued to watch every night.

It takes a lot of communication touch-points and an incredible creative writing team that fully understands the South African landscape and what resonates with the viewers who live these lives every day.

Content is always king and we plan to continuously collaborate with the storytellers who always dig deep to find those special stories that are familiar with our audiences.

GOODBYE RHYTHM CITY Apart from House of Zwide' taking the second spot, millions of viewers also bid farewell to Rhythm City on July 16 after 13-years on the air. The show which started on 9 July 2007 aired a total number of 3,660 episodes and pulled in 3.66 million viewers in July according to The Broadcast Research of South Africa.

The channel released a statement and thanked viewers for their support throughout the years:

Rhythm City had a stellar cast over the years, portraying storylines that mirrored the very reality South Africans go through while showcasing some of the greatest musical talents this country has to offer. Dankie Mzansi for 14 years.
