Ayanda - the movie still showing at the cinema

08 October 2015: Leading Lady Productions and Real Eyes' international success, Ayanda, premiered last week in Rosebank, and on the 02nd of October joined Tell Me Sweet Something, Die Pro, While you Were Not Looking and Schuks! Pay back the Money at the local cinemas.

Produced by Terry Pheto and directed by Sara Blecher, Ayanda first premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival where it received a Special Jury Award. Subsequently, the film was honoured as the 2015 Durban International Film Festival's opening film. The film continues to make rave reviews internationally, having been picked up for distribution in the US by American director, screenwriter, and film marketer, Ava DuVernay of Array Distribution. Ayanda is currently sitting in Top 11 of the Box Office.

In light of all the exciting local films that are screening at the cinemas nationwide, we once again encourage the public to show support for the industry. South Africans are currently spoilt for choice at the cinemas and should therefore not miss this opportunity of enjoying our local content, says NFVF CEO Ms. Zama Mkosi. Ms. Mkosi adds that yesterday the NFVF, together with the Ministry of Arts and Culture hosted an industry stakeholder engagement with the objective of ensuring equitable growth of the film industry.

Minister Nathi Mthethwa called all the stakeholders following the Tell Me Sweet Something news that the film's screens had been reduced at the cinemas, though it was still doing well . The event, hosted in Rosebank, discussed issues including distribution, exhibition, marketing and audience development. In his speech to the delegates, Minister Nathi Mthethwa said, this meeting must be seen as part of an ongoing engagement within the industry to make sure that we come up with ways of improving the distribution and marketing of our films. The Minister added that South Africa is one of the oldest film industry, therefore it is important to work together to change the industry for the better.

Minister Nathi Mthethwa summarized the discussions of the day, and assigned key role players with the responsibility of consulting other departments to ensure that by Mid-November there are tangible interventions that can be included in the White Paper.
