RT S Home of the Year seeks applications for second series

RT s hugely successful Home of the Year is back for a second series and are seeking applications from the public to take part.

The show will feature 21 diverse homes from across the country, seven of which will progress to a grand finale where they will compete for the title of Ireland's Home of the Year.

Whether your home is a self-built passion project, an unusual conversion, a classic restoration, or a beautiful example of modern Irish architecture, it could be Ireland's next Home of the Year!

The panel of three expert judges will scour the country looking for homes filled with passion, personality and clever design at all budget levels. Interior design legend Hugh Wallace and award winning architect Declan O'Donnell will be joined by a new, soon to be revealed judge who will be replacing textiles and homewares designer Helen James. Helen is stepping down from the panel due to an extremely busy work schedule with her exclusive range of homewares.

Last year Ita Molloy and Andrew Harvey's split level, eco-friendly home in Castletownbere in West Cork scooped the trophy and left a lasting impression with the judges. Hugh Wallace described it as; "a tour de force. A faultless home wonderful and worthy" and Declan O'Donnell said You don t often see something so beautiful which is so functional. This home is kind to the environment and sacrifices nothing in achieving that. It s a beacon for clever and creative design."

Looking ahead to the new series judge Hugh Wallace said; My eyes were truly opened to the creativity and passion that Irish people have invested in their homes, they were truly exceptional, and I can't wait to get behind the doors of 21 more hidden gems across the country.

Architect Declan O'Donnell said Irish architecture is really flourishing at the moment and we saw some great examples of that, both big and small in series one. I'm really excited the series has returned to discover what else is out there, it's inspiring to see what people are doing with their homes

The eight part series will be broadcast in spring 2016 and is produced by Screentime ShinAwiL for RT .

The Home of the Year production team is looking for homes of all shapes, sizes and styles. Applications are open to all homes across Ireland.
