Basic Lead, the Los Angeles and Johannesburg-based organisers of DISCOP Africa, have announced that the current level of pre-registrations for the 2013 event, which runs from 6 to 8 November at Johannesburg s Sandton Convention Centre, exceeds last year s figures by 20%.
More than 1,500 delegates from 70-plus countries are set to attend this 8th edition of DISCOP Africa, representing more than 700 new and established regional and global companies driving content business and digital changes with and across Africa.
Nigeria is DISCOP Africa 2013 s Guest Country and will be the focus of a range of dedicated events, screenings and conference tracks. A Gala Dinner hosted by CANAL will take place on Thursday 7 November, in the presence of major Nollywood stars to celebrate 20 years of Nigerian Cinema and to highlight the continuing growth of the country s movie industry, which was recently ranked second in the world in production terms.
We are happy to note that the leading forces behind the development of Africa s digital and television content industries will be taking part in this year s DISCOP Africa. This, along with an increase in the level of advance meetings between participants which we help to facilitate, further indicates that the event has become an important part of the annual calendar for the global content business, comments Basic Lead GM Patrick Jucaud-Zuchowicki.
