Mrs Right Guy strikes the right note at the local box office

Holding its own against blockbusters like X-Men: Apocalypse, Angry Birds and Alice Through The Looking Glass local romcom, Mrs Right Guy, starring Dineo Moeketsi secured fifth place on the industry Top Ten this past weekend just behind Money Monster'.

Mrs Right Guy passed the R1m mark on Monday following its release on Friday 3 June. It opened 5% stronger than the recently released Paula Patton helmed The Perfect Match. The movie doubled the gross takings of audience favourite Fanie Fourie's Lobola (2012) and performed 19% better than last year's Tell Me Sweet Something.

Directed by Adze Ugah, Mrs Right Guy follows the challenges facing the contemporary single woman in her search for a partner and reflects the complications millennials face as they try to find true love.

We are thrilled that audiences are embracing the film to the extent that we are adding sites this coming weekend.' said producer Dumi Gumbi about the opening weekend results.

May this film burst open many more doors and continue to prove that there is a market for South African film.' added producer Mokopi Shale.

Raising laughs as well as hope for those who have been wounded by love, the film follows Gugu as fate introduces her to two eligible young men - serial seducer Dumile (Thapelo Mokoena) and regular good guy Joe (Lehasa Moloi).

Mrs Right Guy was produced by Dumi Gumbi, Kethiwe Ngcobo, Mokopi Shale and Cati Weinek.

It was funded by the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), in association with Gauteng Film Commission and The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)and was supported by the Kwa Zulu Natal Film Commission.

Mrs Right Guy is being distributed in South Africa by Indigenous Film Distribution.
