Father of Anni Dewani speaks to Good Morning Britain in his first tv interview

On Shrien Dewani:

She always said he was too possessive

In his first TV interview, the father of Anni Dewani spoke exclusively to Good Morning Britain and appealed to Shrien Dewani to tell him truly, sincerely' what happened to his daughter.

On his daughter, Vinod said: Anni was a lovely girl, beautiful daughter, well educated, well mannered, big heart, very big heart She always said he is too possessive' but then I said, Anni no human being is perfect in this world.'

On the wedding and subsequent honeymoon, Vinod said: She was doubtful with the wedding because they had an argument. She went ahead with the wedding, probably half hearted.

We never heard from Anni [once she had arrived in South Africa for her honeymoon] for quite some time and the last I talked with Anni was four hours before she died.

She said Papa everything is fine, South Africa is beautiful and we have had a nice time' then she suddenly changed her tone and said Papa I have so much to say to you,' that's what she said in Swedish and then I gathered she didn't want him to know.

Shrien called me from South Africa and said, Dad, I'm sorry I couldn't take care of your daughter.' It struck me so hard. I said why are you telling me I could not take care of your daughter, she is not dead yet.'

On the court case following Anni's death, Vinod said: The case is over now but what we have found is three people confessing they were paid by Shrien to kill Anni and Shrien never took a stand in South Africa. It's very, very upsetting for us.

And on what he would say to Shrien today, Vinod said: Today I would ask him, tell me truly, sincerely what really happened. I need him to tell me under oath what really happened.

Shrien Dewani's case was thrown out of court before he took the stand in South Africa. He has always denied all the charges against him and the judge decided there was not enough evidence for the case to proceed.
