Did you know that GoPro has always been a front-runner in the skate industry? We brought an affordable video camera to skaters everywhere in the early 2000s, and were still revolutionizing the way skaters capture awesome footage!
Whether clearing a set of stairs or screaming down a steep hill, you use your GoPro to record every second and share it with the world. So, which is the best GoPro for skateboarding? This guide provides all the info you need to choose the best skate camera for the way you want to record.
What is the best camera for skateboarding?
HERO11 Black Mini action camera is a compact, lightweight camera made to capture a variety of action sports and fit in hard-to-mount areas without sacrificing quality.
This means it makes the perfect companion for skateboarders looking to experiment with unique perspectives as they take to the city streets or drop in at a park. You can mount it on or under your deck using a GoPro skateboard mount like the Magnetic Swivel Camera Clip or Gumby (Flexible Camera Mount) or easily secure it around your chest with the Chesty (Action Camera Body Mount). Mini already comes with a carrying case, curved adhesive mount and short mounting buckle to ensure that it stays securely in place no matter how you move around.
You dont have time to mess around with settings and angles when the adrenaline is high and a gnarly trick is on deck. Thats why Mini is designed to point and shoot. It features a new larger new sensor to bring an immersive, extra-large HyperView field of view with cinematic 5.3K60 2.7K240 video with 24.7 megapixel frame grabs. You can also outfit your Mini with the Max Wide Lens Mod for an even smoother, wider-angle experience.
What camera do skateboard filmers use?
HERO11 Black action camera is a superb option for skateboarder filmers who want a little more creativity with their setup.
The new, taller image sensor captures more vertical detail with higher quality. It also features built-in HyperSmooth 5.0 stabilization with AutoBoost and Horizon Lock, ensuring a smooth shot while catching some air. HERO11 Black captures the same 10-bit color as Mini, which elevates all your videos with a richer, cinematic look. It also boasts the same 5.3K60 2.7K240 video with 24.7-megapixel stills from video. Heres the kicker-HERO11 Black sports 27 megapixel high-res photos and 4K120 video for super crisp footage. That means you can capture silky smooth slow-motion scenes as you grind down a handrail or fly down a steep hill. Couple HERO11 Black with the GoPro Sports Camera Kit or the 3-Way 2.0 (Tripod / Camera Grip / Arm), and youll be ready to face anything!
Get wild and crazy with the GoPro MAX

With a 360 field of view, skaters have a wide range of possibilities for their tricks. For instance, you can mount MAX on the skateboard itself, to a helmet using the Vented Helmet Strap Mount and Boom Camera Mount. This allows for unique angles and perspectives that can capture skateboarding footage in a way that traditional cameras cant. GoPro is also an excellent follow cam while skating, and you can check out this video to see MAX in action!
In addition, you get many other features that make MAX a no-brainer as a skateboard video camera. For example, skaters can take advantage of insane 6K video with Max HyperSmooth stabilization. Its also waterproof up to 16ft in case your board goes flying into a puddle. Then again, that might be a fun video clip to share on social media!

But if youre looking for more opportunities to stand out, you can also search through our many GoPro camera accessories to boost your experiences!
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do you mount a GoPro camera on a skateboard?
It depends on the kind of angle you want.
For example, if you want a POV perspective, mount it directly to your helmet using an adhesive mount or the Vented Helmet Strap Mount. However, if you want footage from the boards perspective, you can use the adhesive mount to stick the GoPro directly on or under the board to get a one-of-a-kind look that traditional cameras are too bulky to capture.
What are the best GoPro camera accessories for skateboarding?
The best GoPro accessories for skateboarding are the ones that make your experiences more fun. To gain new perspectives with your skateboard filming camera, check out our Curved Flat Adhesive Mounts, Hand Wrist Camera Strap, El Grande (Camera Extension Pole), MAX Wide Lens Mod or Bite Mouth Mount!
