The talented actress Nokuthula Ledwaba, who plays the most-hated character Angelina in The River right now has left viewers with their hearts in their throats with her despicable actions.

ANGELINA HAS BEEN THROUGH A LOT' The villainous character Angelina (played by Nokuthula Ledwaba) in The River stole her sister-wife Paulina's baby at the hospital and is now raising the baby as hers.

Ledwaba tells True Love Magazine that Angelina was forced to be a survivor because of her background.

She's an orphan, she's been through a lot in her life and she's a young woman trying to survive everything she does is for her own survival, the actress says.

Her character is in a polygamous marriage with Thuso (played by Presley Chweneyagae) who decided to also marry Paulina (played by Tango Ncetezo).

They were both pregnant at the same time and went into labour at the same time, but only one baby made it.

Ledwaba's character's baby suffered from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and she pretended that it was Paulina's baby who died.

This particular child was important because is one ovela sekuyisthembu (who is birthed in a polygamous context) because Cobra (aka Thuso) has another wife and the child dying sort of tears her world apart because she's trying to build something here, she's trying to stay in this family, she wants to belong somewhere. So, the child dies and she doesn't allow herself to openly mourn her child because her survival instinct kicks in and she's thinking, oh gosh, I'm going to be out in the streets, Nokuthula explains. So she's insecure about her position in this family and that's why we see her making all of these questionable decisions.

THE RIVER': PAULINA IS THE LOVE OF COBRA'S LIFE' The former Rhythm City actress adds: If you follow the relationship, [Angelina] knows that Paulina is the love of Cobra's life and that she'll never match up to that ever. she knows it. But one thing she knows about Thuso is that he'll do anything for his children and the more kids she has with him, the better her chances of staying in this marriage and this family.

Angelina fears getting caught. You can't go through all this and voluntarily allow yourself to get caught. She doesn't want to get caught. But at the same time, she's a mother, she knows how badly Paulina wanted this baby, and of course, she feels for her but her need for survival comes first.

Ledwaba hopes the complexity of the storyline between Thuso and Angelina encourages audiences to make a conclusion for themselves.

I'm hoping the story's believable, what the audience decides is totally up to them and you will get mixed reactions and when people talk, that's when we know we're doing something worth doing, says
