Marty Morrissey Heads Up New GAA Squad on RT Radio 1 This Sunday 7th June sees the start of a brand new GAA series, The Marty Squad, on RT Radio 1. The programme will take a fresh look at the GAA Championships every Sunday evening from 6-7pm.
Presented from match venues all over the country by Marty Morrissey and Paddy McKenna who will be in Dublin, the show will take a different look at the weekend's GAA action. Reporter Brenda Donohue will be on the road at the big matches each weekend talking to fans and sampling the atmosphere.
Every week the squad will be joined by a panel of regular guests: former Roscommon goalkeeper and Connacht championship winner Shane Curran, former Kilkenny All-Ireland winner David Herity and Cork camogie star Anna Geary. And there'll be a chance for the real experts the supporters on the road home to have their say too.
Marty Morrissey says: To win an All-Ireland takes a great squad of players and it's the same for radio! I am delighted to be part of this new squad and to work for the first time with Paddy Mc Kenna and to renew acquaintances with Brenda Donohue. But it's not about us, it's about you, your feelings, your joy and your heartbreak as we travel together to Croke Park for the All-Ireland Finals.
Paddy McKenna says: I m really looking forward to co-presenting The Marty Squad. We have something like seven All-Ireland medals on the expert panel; Marty is Clare, Brenda is Dublin they and their fellow countymen live, breed and expect GAA success and titles. I m from Leitrim so they must have decided they needed to balance all that out!"
Brenda says: I am really excited to be part of The Marty Squad. As a GAA fan myself, I want to bring that experience to the programme; the highs and lows of the drive home after a big match, the opinions from the terraces and also take a look back at the careers of some of the great GAA legends. Lucky me to be working with Marty Morrissey again I'm sure sparks will fly!
