Africa Tech Week to focus on digital disruption and promote transformation

The event will bring together 30 world-class speakers and 350 delegates to focus on digital disruption in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The conference aims to offer businesses real-world insights and solutions to influence their business strategies in response to the changing tech landscape.

The Department of Science and Technology and the City of Cape Town, along with the conference organisers, envisage the conference as an opportunity to introduce exponential thinking to Africa's tech players. They see this disruptive mindset as a critical skill that will accelerate digital growth on the continent.

By 2020 there will be more than 700m smartphone connections in Africa - more than twice the projected number in North America and not far from the total in Europe, according to GSMA, an association of mobile phone operators. In Nigeria alone 16 smartphones are sold every minute, while mobile data traffic across Africa is set to increase 15-fold by 2020. The event will seek to connect major players in the industry in a melting pot where the latest ideas around 21st-century transformation and business innovation will be at the centre of the conversation.

Invest Cape Town (@InvestCapeTown) March 2, 2019 The event will be hosted by Smile 90.4FM presenter Bobby Brown, and Salim Ismail will open the event. Ismail is the founder of ngstr , which was acquired by Google in 2010 and Brickhouse, Yahoo's internal incubator.

The event will happen in Century City and will promote digital transformation by connecting the public sector, private sector and tech talent in the industry.
