S unveils comprehensive schedule for 40...

The Audio Engineering Society (AES) will host a series of talks, technical tours and social events during its 140th International Convention. The event takes place from June 4 to 7, 2016 at Palais des Congr s in Paris, France.

Organisers expect this year's convention to be one of its busiest for both exhibitors and attendees, with its special events program featuring speakers including President Elect of the AES Alex U. Case (speaking on Intuition, Rebellion, Courage, and Chance Historic Moments of Creative Signal Processing That Resonate to This Day. )

Following its opening ceremonies, the AES Special Awards presentations will be given out by Awards Committee Chair Sean Olive.

Other presentations on day one include Podcasting Telling Your Story with Sound, presented by award-winning engineer Jim Anderson and The 3D Audio Revolution from Labs to Mass Market by researcher Rozenn Nicol.

The event will also introduce its Audio Projections part of the program, comprising of twelve listening experiences showcasing the latest surround, multichannel and 3D audio technology.

A host of social events including a banquet at Issy Les Moulineaux in Ile Saint Germain on the evening of Sunday June 5 and a traditional organ concert at Saint Etienne du Mont Church on Saturday June 6.

A series of technical tours focused on technology, acoustics, production and audio history will also take place during the event around Paris. Tours are available on a first come, first saved basis to anyone with an All Access badge tickets can be purchased during the event.

Saturday June 4, 1:30 4:30 pm: Sonic Emotion / Ink Production

Ink Production has been part of production, post-production and dubbing for motion pictures and TV for 60 years, and installed the first Dolby Atmos mixing stage in France. The tour will offer an Atmos mixing demo using 3D Wave Field Synthesis with the Wave 1 processor from Sonic Emotion Labs.

Sunday June 5, 9:00 11:00 am: Ferber Studios

Founded in 1973 by three-time Grammy-winning engineer Ren Ameline, the acoustic environment at Ferber Studios has been used by artists such as Frank Zappa, Bryan Ferry and Neil Young. The venue also is often hired for film, TV and advertising recording.

Monday June 6, 8:30 11:00 am: Op ra Bastille (limited to 25 people)

The 2,700-seat opera house at Place de la Bastille is the main facility for the Paris National Opera. It also hosts a series of ballet performances and symphony concerts and across nine stages.

Monday June 6, 11:30 am 1:30 pm: Mus lec the Klaus Blasquiz Electroacoustic Museum

The Mus lec the Klaus Blazquiz Electroacoustic Museum serves to save, protect, restore, document, inform, demonstrate, display and share audio-related items. Attendees will be able to view a selection of microphones, loudspeakers, tape recorders, electronic musical instruments, signal processors, radios, turntables at the museum.

Monday June 6, 2:00 4:00 pm: Palais Garnier (limited to 25 people)

Designed by Charles Garnier in 1875, the 1,900-seat Op ra Garnier'd acoustics are complemented by opulent architecture and ceiling painting by Marc Chagall.

Tuesday June 7, 9:00 am 12:00 pm: Yellow Cab Studios

A post-production facility specialising in film and TV sound-for-picture, Yellow Cab Studios has expanded over the years to be one of the largest Foley and ADR recording studios in France, featuring three mixing studios. During Foley recording the engineer is in the same room as the talent rather than in a separate control room. A dual-zone revolving ceiling and four sets of motorised drapes create a variable acoustic environment.

Tuesday June 7, 1:30 4:30 pm: Conservatoire national sup rieur de musique et de danse de Paris

The CNSMDP educational establishment trains performers, composers, musicologists and audio engineers with courses in recording, radio, film and online audio production, live performance and more. The tour will feature demos of the school's numerous recording, production and performance facilities.
