UHD displays get big screen treatment

An 84-inch 4K/Ultra HD display for image editing and rendering has been introduced by Germany's eyevis, to give it a family of four Quad HD displays (including 31.5-inch, 56-inch and 60-inch models).

The EYE-LCD-8400-QHD-LE, with its 3840x2160-pixel resolution enables the native display of 4K video and is intended for use in video editing suites or broadcast control rooms, where it can also be used as a multiviewer display allowing four HD streams to be viewed at full resolution (as shown in the picture of the 60-inch model on display at IBC).

All of the displays have 10-bit colour processing, and wide viewing angles of 176 , both vertically and horizontally.

The 31.5-inch and 60-inch displays have direct LED backlight illumination (which offers the most even illumination), while the 84-inch has an Edge-lit LED backlight.

The 84-inch QHD-Display is also available with a touch foil surface with up to 32 simultaneous touch points. This could be used in front of the camera for a weather report, for example, which was how it was shown at IBC (as a vertical display in conjunction with Trivis Weather Graphix). If the user touched on one of the cities a window pops up that shows weather details from that area.

Brightness levels on the Quad panels are 450cd/sqm (31.5-inch and 56-inch) and 500cd/sqm (60-inch and 84-inch), while contrast ratios range from 1000:1 (31.5-inch), and 1200:1 (56-inch), to 1400:1 (84-inch) and up to 5000:1 (60-inch), with response times from only 6ms (60-inch), 6.5ms (560inch), and 8ms (31.5-inch) to 12ms (84-inch).

For the display signal supply eyevis has developed its own technical solution with DVI-D inputs (four times DVI-D single link or two times DVI-D dual link). Combined with professional high performance graphic cards this should mean that it is possible to create a high-resolution visual display system at a competitive price.

The preliminary details for the EYE-LCD-5600-QHD-V2 (the CCFL-based 56-inch screen) indicate that while it will come with four single-link DVI inputs as standard, it is planned to offer four DisplayPort connections as an option, which would be useful with Apple's new 4K-supporting MacPro.
