One hour of TV, 9.4 tonnes of carbon: albert to survey sustainability

Television and film think-tank albert is undertaking a major survey of the independent production sector to assess the level of understanding of sustainability, climate change and the challenges these issues raise for those working in the TV industry. The think-tank aims to lead the TV industry towards a more sustainable future,

Those completing the survey will be asked a number of questions covering current carbon footprint, responsibilities within companies, reputation and actions being taken.

The TV industry has a large impact on the environment, but also has the potential to create positive social movements, said Aaron Matthews, industry sustainability manager albert+. This is about taking large-scale action to reduce our operational footprint, whilst engaging audiences with the value of the world we live in. Receiving feedback from the production industry is fundamental in understanding the level of engagement in the issues enabling us to develop our roadmap to help the whole sector towards a more sustainable future.

Established in 2011, albert is a think-tank for film and television, working to raise the profile of sustainability by creating a forum for debate and championing sustainable production techniques to the wider industry. albert seeks to lead the TV production industry towards an environmentally sustainable future. The project is supported by the albert consortium; making the project resources freely available to the wider TV industry.
