Sky Sports celebrates 25 years of World Championship Darts with dedicated channel and brand new programming

Sky Sports is set to celebrate 25 years of broadcasting the World Darts Championship with a dedicated darts channel, and brand new programming.

From 14 December to 3 January, Sky Sports Arena will become Sky Sports Darts HD, showcasing 21 days of non-stop darts programming, including every lunchtime and evening session exclusively live from Alexandra Palace.

This years tournament will also mark another momentous moment in the game, as 16-time world champion Phil The Power Taylor plays in his final PDC World Championship. Having dominated the tournament for so long, he will be looking to bow out in style.

To mark the occasion, Sky Sports Darts will screen an hour-long, exclusive documentary, Phil Taylor the Greatest. In his own words, Phil tells his inspiring life story, from humble beginnings and being told at the age of 10 he would become the greatest darts player ever, to the present day and fulfilling that prophecy.

Sky Sports Presenter Dave Clark said: I cant wait for the worlds to get started. I think this years tournament will be the biggest and best yet. The Power will want to go out on a high but hell have the next class of world champions snapping at his heels. Its going to make for addictive viewing.

New programming will also include an exclusive interview with Mensur Sulijovic, the current World number 7, who fled the war in Serbia with his family before learning to play darts in Belgium.

Sky Sports first broadcast the PDC World Championships in 1993, when a 33-year-old Phil Taylor lost 6-1 to Dennis The Menace Priestley and since then has played a huge part in the growth of the sport. Just as the crowds in the arena have grown, arm chair fans of the sport have seen on screen coverage transformed, with the introduction of the now legendary walk-ons, cutting edge slo-mo camera technology and expert analysis.

Fans can also look forward to the return of Sky Sports expert presentation team; Dave Clark, Laura Woods, Wayne Mardell, Keith Deller, Russ Bray and John Part.
